Is "On the Lot" Worth Saving?

There was a time when I was holding out hope for Fox's On the Lot. But after all the format shifting and time wasting with phone numbers and mindless palaver, I gave up on the summer suck fest (I'm still trying to comprehend how Mark Burnett and Steven Spielberg could sign off on such a crappy show). Clearly, however, there are others who are more generous with their time and still care about this wasted opportunity. Today, the the smart folks at Cinematical lift up the hood and get all greasy in an attempt to salvage the car-crash of a reality program (my personal fave: medicate host Adriana Costa before each show). The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz Blog made many of the same suggestions yesterday. Here's my bottom line: give the show a consistent structure, let us emotionally invest in the contestants and allow us to see them interact with each other when competing. Right now the show plays like the Cliffs notes to a hackneyed how-to-succeed-in-Hollywood guide. At this point, in my estimation, it's too far gone to save. I'd rather watch Project Greenlight on DVD.
