Set Your TiVo for Sunday's "Shot in the Dark"
If you get a chance, I highly recommend watching Adrian Grenier's Shot in the Dark (not to be confused with the Blake Edwards' Pink Panther film), which airs this Sunday night after the season three finale of Grenier's show Entourage. I had a chance to see Shot, a personal documentary about the actor's quest to reconnect with for his long-absent biological father, at the Toronto Film Festival this past year. Grenier, now 30, shot the footage over a two week period in 1999 and has spent the last seven years editing it. When I first saw the film, I was struck with how brutally honest he was about his family's less-than-conventional past (he was conceived when his parents were living on a commune) and his own confused, often unflattering emotions when it came to his father. HBO acquired the film about two years ago. "We don't do a lot of celebrity-driven stuff. But we were really quite surprised how genuine and raw it was," HBO documentary chief Sara Bernstein told USA Today.
