Dark Star Redux: Tune Into Jerry Garcia Once Again
I usually don't write about radio, but as a man who married a former hippie, this was too good to pass up. Sirius Satellite Radio announced today that it will launch a channel dedicated to the music from the Grateful Dead, including concerts and bootlegs from fans. The channel will also have on-air appearances from band members including guitarist Bob Weir and drummer Mickey Hart. "We have fans who've driven hundreds of miles to see us," said Hart. "Now you can save on greenhouse gas emissions with Sirius without driving a mile." Sirius, which offers subscribers more than 130 channels to choose from, already has channels dedicated to specific artists such as Elvis Presley and the Rolling Stones. This news comes on the same day that some XM subscribers have been without their Oprah and Friends. According to the WSJ, the company experienced a second day of outages, due to software problems with one of its four satellites. XM was to fix the problem Monday evening, but later said that the problems wouldn't be resolved until midday Tuesday.
