Just When You Thought 'Brokeback' Had Exited the Cultural Lexicon

A girl and her grandparents have sued the Chicago Board of Education, the AP reports, saying that a substitute teacher showed the R-rated 2005 movie Brokeback Mountain--about the love affair between two gay cowboys--to a class of 8th graders at Ashburn Community Elementary School. The lawsuit claims that Jessica Turner, 12, suffered psychological distress after seeing the Oscar-winning movie, allegedly shown without parental permission, and now her family is seeking around $500,000 in damages. The best bit of dialogue from the lawsuit (cue the eerie music): when the substitute, referred to only as "Ms. Buford," asked a student to shut the classroom door before showing the video, saying "What happens in Ms. Buford's class stays in Ms. Buford's class."
