Tarantino, Fincher, Coen Brothers' Films in the Cannes
The 60th annual Cannes Film Festival, which runs May 16-27, has announced its line up, with five notable American titles in competition for the Palme d'Or:
No Country for Old Men (The Coen Brothers, who won in 1991 for Barton Fink)
Zodiac (David Fincher)
Death Proof (Quentin Tarantino, who won in 1994 for Pulp Fiction)
Paranoid Park (Gus Van Sant, who won in 2004 for Elephant)
We Own the Night (James Gray)
Screening out-of-competition and making its world premiere will be Steven Soderberg's Ocean's Thirteen and Michael Moore's health-care documentary Sicko (Moore won the Palm in 2004 for Fahrenheit 9/11). Leonardo DiCaprio's eco-doc 11th Hour will play as a special screening.
Submissions were up 22% this year, according to festival organizers. There are 22 films in competition (49 total in the official selection), selected from 1600 candidates from 95 different countries. Last year, British director Ken Loach took home the top prize with Wind that Shakes the Barley.
