MPAA's Aversion to Online Blood
And you thought Mark Cuban had issues with David Stern. Twitchfilm is reporting that the MPAA has gone after Cuban's Magnolia Pictures to alter a website for their upcoming horror comedy Severance (in theaters May 18th) because of an offensive image of a decapitated body spurting blood (btw, when's that Federal Trade Commission report about Hollywood selling violence to children going to be released?) I was hoping there would be some vitriolic screed about this from Cuban on his blog, but he hasn't posted one (at least, not yet). So here's the Severance synopsis from Magnolia's website:
Working nine to five is a real killer, but teambuilding holidays can sometimes be even worse. A coach lurches out of the hustle and bustle of Budapest and heads towards the mountainous border. Aboard are seven employees of the international weapons manufacturer Palisade Defence, global suppliers of innovative weaponry for the past 75 war-torn years. The lucky group are being treated to a team-building weekend at the company's newly built luxury spa lodge by their president, George Cinders. But things quickly go awry as the colleagues find themselves faced with the chop when their corporate weekend is sabotaged by a deadly enemy. Forget office politics, only the smartest will survive this bloody office outing.
I'm trying to remember the last time I heard about the MPAA getting involved with a movie's website...the only incident that comes to mind was back in 2006 with New Line's insane XXX webgame for Wayne Kramer's Running Scared.
