Richard Gere Gets Burned in India

I'm not making this up. Angry Hindu nationalists (more or less the subcontinent's version of the ultra-conversative Christian right) have been beating burning effigies of Richard Gere with sticks after he pulled an Adrian Brody and unexpectedly kissed actress Shilpa Shetty on stage during an AIDS Awareness program this past Sunday in New Dehli (apparently, some South Asians aren't too big on displays of public affection). This isn't the first time that Shetty has caused a riot. Back when she was on Britain's Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year, her housemate, 25-year-old reality TV star Jade Goody, allegedly made some racist remarks about the popular Indian actress and angry crowds took to the streets in protest. Shetty later won the competition.
