Targeting Facebook
Target Corp. will begin selling Facebook Credits gift cards on September 5, the company announced Wednesday.
Target will be the first retailer to sell the cards at bricks-and-mortar locations. The cards are loaded with a virtual currency consumers can use to purchase “goods” in Facebook games and applications. The credits will work with upwards of 150 games, including FarmVille, Mafia Wars and Bewjeweled Blitz.
Consumers can purchase the cards at Target in amounts of $15, $25 or $50.
U.S. consumers are expected to spend $1.6 billion this year on social-networking games and related digital goods, Target said in a press statement, citing market research from Inside Network.
Facebook started its credits program in May of last year.
