Nielsen Folding 'Editor & Publisher' and 'Kirkus Reviews'
An update on this morning's Pressed post on sale of the Hollywood Reporter and other Nielsen Business Media titles: Nielsen has folded Editor & Publisher, a newspaper trade paper (founded in 1901), and Kirkus Reviews (founded in 1933), a title devoted to books.
Greg Farrar, Nielsen Business Media's president, sent a memo to staff this morning (here reproduced by Poynter's Jim Romenesko) in which he wrote, "This move will allow us to strengthen investment in our core businesses—those parts of our portfolio that have the greatest potential for growth—and ensure our long-term success."
E&P's editor at large, Mark Fitgerald, and associate editor Jennifer Saba took to their shared blog, Fitz & Jen, to say, "What we can say is that at least for some interim period, Mark Fitzgerald and Jennifer Saba will continue to report on the business of newspapers. With luck it will be at this site."
Senior editor Joe Strupp posted on his Twitter feed, "Much sadness here. But I will stay on the beat, and if any openings…"
