100 Layoffs Coming to 'BusinessWeek'

In reporting the news that Bloomberg has tapped Josh Tyrangiel as editor in chief of BusinessWeek, the Wall Street Journal's Shira Ovide adds an unpleasant new fact to the continuing drama surrounding the magazine: 100 layoffs.

Ovide reports that about 25 percent of the magazine's staff will lose their jobs after the McGraw-Hill title moves over to Bloomberg. Current employees have apparently been asked to submit their résumés and short personal statements to Bloomberg representatives, essentially reapplying for the jobs they already have. Not exactly the sort of thing that makes a person feel comfortable about being assimilated into the Borg.
