Twitter User Wins Nobel Peace Prize
Barack Obama, who tweets at Twitter.com/BARACKOBAMA, has won the Nobel Peace Price for bringing the world "hope for a better future." Obama, also the President of the United States, has 2.3 million "followers." According to CNN, Obama is "humbled to be selected." He has yet to tweet his reaction.
Twitter reportedly has 18 million users and could top 26 million in 2010. The short-form blogging platform was also considered instrumental in bringing democracy to Iran in June and in Moldova in April. There has been no talk of Twitter being selected to win a Nobel Prize of its own.
Actor Ashton Kutcher also uses the service and has 3.7 million "followers." According to various reports, singer-actress Miley Cyrus quit her account yesterday. The service went down briefly yesterday around 10 a.m. EST.
