Jeff Zucker to NBC Universal Employees: Keep Calm, Carry On
A follow-up to this morning's reports that Comcast may be kicking the tires at NBC Universal: Jeff Zucker, the company's president and CEO, sent out an email to staffers assuring them that there was no need to worry about the rumors. (You hear that, Jay Leno Show writers? Put your heads back down and keep working on new and better Viagra jokes.)
In the email, which was published by TV Newser's Chris Ariens, Zucker boasts, "Not surprisingly, given the attractive nature of our assets, there is always significant interest in NBC Universal. That has been amplified lately by the annual discussion with Vivendi about its 20 percent ownership of our company."
He insists that that there are no decisions about the company and tells his employees, "We all have to do our best to keep our focus on our day-to-day operations and continue to deliver the kinds of results that have made this one of the premier media companies in the world. It is an exciting time, and these are exciting possibilities."
On the Comcast side, All Things Digital's Media Memo blogger Peter Kafka unearths some comments from the cable company's COO Steve Burke, who said in early September, "We will see if anything comes available. If it does, we will certainly look at it."
