Could Leno's Show Be Worth $300 Million for NBC?

First the bad news: Jay Leno's much-hyped 10 p.m. talk show has fallen off in the ratings. Now the good news: It could still earn NBC a few hundred million this year.

After attracting 18 million viewers to the premiere episode of The Jay Leno Show, the show only managed to pull in 5.7 million viewers on Monday night. The show, which was up against non-rerun episodes of CBS's CSI: Miami and Fox's House, Leno finished third. But, hey, nearly 6 million viewers is still pretty good: Remember Time's pre-air prediction that all Leno needed was 5 million to be profitable.

Speaking of which, in a Hollywood Reporter-sponsored panel yesterday, John Ferriter, William Morris Endeavor Entertainment's executive vice president of Nonscripted Television, predicted the show could earn $300 million for the network, even with a measly 1.5 rating.

Not too shabby. Especially when you recall that the Wall Street Journal reported that advertisers were only being asked to pay between $55,000 and $75,000 for a 30-second spot before the show debuted.
