Diller: Ben Silverman "Miscast" at NBC

"Ben Silverman is the most energetic, interesting-minded entrepreneur," Barry Diller told the crowd at Goldman Sachs' Communacopia Conference today. Diller, the head of IAC/InterActiveCorp, also said the former co-chair of NBC Entertainment was "miscast" at the network as he talked a bit about their new endeavor that's been valued at a reported $100 million.

Diller likened Web video today to the early days of the film industry when shorts dominated Hollywood. "I think it's at the very beginning," he said. "I think [Silverman is] the perfect impresario for this."

Earlier in his chat, Diller had said "There's no video business model yet." Let's hope his "interesting-minded" impresario figures one out.

He went on to call the sometimes-Heely-clad kids of College Humor (which he acquired in 2006) the future of entertainment. "I think that little group is the embryo that over the next decade or two will become the dominant force."

Diller also spoke frankly about AOL, which Time Warner is currently trying to spin off. "I have no intent to purchase AOL," he said

He also talked about Microsoft's recently launched search engine Bing, "I think Bing is a good product," he said.

"I think what they do is what [IAC's] Ask has been doing for seven or eight years." Bing!
