Who Would Watch a Show About Publicists?
Is the world waiting for a reality series about the exciting field of public relations?
Probably not, especially considering the failure MTV had in 2005 for PoweR Girls [sic.], which featured New York publicist and driver's education class cautionary lesson Lizzie Grubman.
Proving that no idea is bad enough for television, Kim Kardashian, who appears on many magazine covers despite the fact that no one quite knows who she is or what she does, is producing a reality series about publicists Jonathan Cheban and Simon Huck.
People.com has all the details about the project—except for the show's title or what network is foolish enough to air it. We're guessing the show will be called something brilliant like Public Image Limited—you're welcome, Kim—and will probably air on Bravo after whatever iteration of the real housewives they've got lined up for 2010. (The Real Housewives of Kandahar?)
Kardashian tells People.com's David Caplan, "Every week we'll have a different celebrity and a different crisis and drama... The great thing about Jonathan and Simon is that they focus on corporate PR and building brands; they don’t represent any individuals, so they see the bigger picture. They see how to make a celebrity into a brand. I've seen so many things go so close to going wrong, and then they fix everything."
Cheban was memorably profiled by the New York Observer's Noelle Hancock in 2004, an article in which he offered such "big picture" "brand-building" pearls of wisdom as, "The Rolex got a little boring... Suddenly every random J.A.P. uptown was walking around wearing one and it was like, 'Uh, uh!'"
Insightful. Well, now at least we know the show won't air on JTV.
