Teddy Kennedy's Memoir Set for September 14 Release
Edward Kennedy's memoir will hit bookstores less than three weeks after the senator's death at age 77.
According to the New York Times Media Decoder blog, True Compass: A Memoir, co-written with Pulitzer Prize winner Ron Powers and acquired by Twelve Books (a division of Hachette Book Group) for $8 million in 2007, will hit shelves September 14. Its publication date was originally set for October.
In a statement on Twelve's website, Jonathan Karp, publisher and editor in chief of the imprint, wrote, "The greatest experience of my 20 years in the publishing business has been working with Senator Edward M. Kennedy…. His book will be a revelation, an international event, and a lasting contribution to American history."
"I’ve read every word multiple times, and it is dazzling—a candid, heartfelt, and beautifully written account of an extraordinary life. I can’t wait to share it with you."
The list price for the hardcover edition is $35. However, Twelve will be selling a limited-edition version for $1,000, a plan that was in place before the Senator's death. That version of the book will be leather bound and signed by Kennedy via electronic pen.
