Patriots-Ravens Monday Night Game Sets Cable Audience Record

Not even "High School Musical" can top the New England Patriots.

ESPN drew 17.5 million viewers for Monday night's Patriots -Ravens contest, surpassing the Disney Channel's telecast of "High School Musical 2" in August, which drew 17.2 million viewers, as cable's biggest-ever audience.

The Patriots rallied to beat the Ravens to stay undefeated at 12-0. New England is trying to become the first team since the 1972 Miami Dolphins to complete a perfect season.

The game drew a 13.0 cable Nielsen rating, up 51.2 percent from an 8.6 for the comparable Panthers-Eagles game last year. Monday night's game also set a record by averaging 12.53 million homes.

Giants-Cowboys, the most-viewed "Monday Night Football" game last year, averaged 11.81 million homes on Oct. 23. ESPN out-delivered all broadcast and cable nets on Monday among households and viewers.

The game's audience peaked with a 17.6 (16.9 million households, 23.9 million viewers) from 11:30-11:45pm Eastern Time. The telecast ended at 11:45pm.
