NBA Awards 2009 All-Star Game to Phoenix
Phoenix will host the 2009 National Basketball Association All-Star Game.
Appearing at today's news conference were NBA Commissioner David Stern, Suns Chairman Jerry Colangelo and Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon.
"Phoenix is one of the great sports and entertainment destinations, so it is only natural that it will once again become the basketball capital of the world," said Stern.
The game is among the tougher tickets in sports and will place Arizona basketball fans among 600 million worldwide television viewers. Fans are likely to come away with a visit to the NBA All-Star Jam Session, an interactive family event that features dozens of games and displays, and a court that is home to the Rookie Challenge game and the practice sessions of the All-Star teams.
The Feb. 13-15, 2009, weekend also includes All-Star Saturday night, which features the skills, three-point shooting and slam dunk competitions.
Phoenix also hosted the NBA All-Star Game in 1975 and 1995.

Suns President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts said last week that Phoenix would not have been in the running for the All-Star Game if not for the Phoenix Convention Center's expansion, the construction of a downtown Sheraton hotel and a state sales tax exemption for All-Star Game event tickets.
