NFL Network Seeking More Regular-Season Games

The National Football League has plans "to possibly increase the number of regular season games and non-league content" carried on NFL Network, according to Reuters.

Dallas Cowboys Owner and NFL Network Committee Chairman Jerry Jones said the 32 NFL team owners are "unified in our basic commitment to the network. It's so important to our future." Jones said that the NFL "will pursue broadcast rights deals with college conferences," but "there are no plans to branch out beyond football-related content."

The network currently shows eight regular-season games a year. But it lacks carriage on most major cable outlets because those companies don't want to put the games on digital basic service.

Jones yesterday urged television customers to cancel their service from Comcast, Time Warner Cable and other cable operators that refuse to carry the NFL Network or include it among their basic-channel offerings.

That didn't sway Time Warner spokesperson Maureen Huff.

"We don't think any of our customers will disconnect just because Jerry Jones tells them to do so." she said.
