ARod, Boras Huddle to Mull Many Millions

Alex Rodriguez and agent Scott Boras needed three days to figure out, well, nothing they would acknowledge publicly.

Rodriguez and Boras met for three days in Southern California. Boras called the meetings an "academic exercise" for Rodriguez to assess his options.

Rodriguez has 10 days after the end of the World Series to decide whether to stay with the Yankees, or opt out of his contract and become a free agent. If he does that, the Yankees would lose a $27 million subsidy from the Texas Rangers and general manager Brian Cashman has said he would recommend the Yankees not negotiate with Rodriguez after that.

``You have to look at what each party has the right to do and certainly, an employer has the right to choose or not to choose to bid on an employee,'' Boras told CNBC today. "In Alex's case when he was acquired from Texas, his contract had four years to run and the Yankees were fully aware that he had the right to opt out. Certainly, Alex enjoys playing in New York and has said so.

Boras has also said repeatedly that he will try to tie Rodriguez's value to a regional sports network. The Yankees have the YES Network in New York, the value of which has risen from $1 billion to $3 billion since Rodriguez arrived in 2004.

"There is a relationship between Alex's multiple, well, potential multiple MVPs in New York and this historic performance compared to the Yankee players and the fan interest."

Despite his gaudy regular-season numbers, the Yankees have reached zero World Series in four years with ARod in the lineup.

Boras didn't mention that part.
