More Golf for ESPN, as Network Adds Masters Coverage

Seems like almost every day there's an addition to the ESPN sports juggernaut.

Word now comes that Augusta National will shifting first- and second-round television coverage of The Masters from USA Network to ESPN.. Beginning next April, ESPN and ESPN HD will air live first- and second-round coverage. ESPN will use CBS' production and announcers, but ESPN's Mike Tirico will host the telecast. CBS will still televise the final two rounds.

The limited commercial interruption format will also be used by ESPN under Augusta National's deals with AT&T, IBM and ExxonMobil. ESPN has televised The Masters internationally since 1993. The Masters' early rounds had been on USA since 1982.

The Masters is almost always the most-watched golf tournament of the year. Last year's victory by Zach Johnson drew a 9.1 rating for Sunday's final round.

Masters officials also said they would partner with several well-known international companies to support television coverage and golf development programs outside of the United States. Thus, Mercedes-Benz and Rolex were announced as two initial partners.

Can Tiger Woods driving to Augusta in a Mercedes sporting his favorite Rolex be far behind?
