Boras Quickly Setting the Market for ARod
Alex Rodriguez, fresh off the New York Yankees' latest playoff failure, will have 10 days following the World Series to decide whether to opt out of the last three years and $81 million of the 10-year, $252 million contract he signed before the 2001 season.
Agent Scott Boras went directly into the fray today, saying that Rodriguez could be worth between $500 million and $1 billion in a decade to a team's regional sports network. The Yankees failed to escape the first round of the playoffs for the third straight year last night, losing the Cleveland Indians in four games.
Boras told ESPN he will "tell prospective bidders that Rodriguez could play until he is 45," allowing him to break the all-time hits and home run records.
"His fan base will subscribe to that network to watch him play and they will sell more advertising," Boras said.

Sounds like someone possibly advising his prized client to make the move out of New York. The Yankees haven't been to the World Series in the four years Rodriguez has played in the Bronx. Despite ARod's for-sure MVP regular season in 2007, perhaps they won't spend upwards of $30 million a year to keep him.
Boras knows other franchises will ante up, and he's making sure the Yankees know that.
Stay tuned.
