ESPN Officially Bounces Former QB Theismann

One season you're a mainstay on "Monday Night Football." The next year, gone.

ESPN, which in March announced that Ron Jaworski would replace Joe Theismann as an analyst on "Monday Night Football," today said the network reached an agreement with the former quarterback to end their relationship.

Theismann wasn't just part of the inaugural booth talent as "Monday Night Football" moved to cable last season after 36 years on ABC. He had been a color commentator on ESPN's "Sunday Night Football" telecasts from 1988 to 2005. That's eons in the fickle television business.

"We have reached a settlement with Joe Theismann to end his association with ESPN,'' the network said. "We thank Joe for his many years of work for us and wish him well"

And just like that, it's over.
