ARod's Agent Denies Report of Possible Cubs' Stake for Star Player

Scott Boras, the baseball super-agent who happens to have Yankees' megastar Alex Rodriguez as his client, is denying a New York magazine
claiming he's spoken with potential bidders for the Chicago Cubs about a contract for Rodriguez that may reach $30 million a year and include a stake in the team.

"I have not talked to anyone,'' Boras told the AP.

Which, in agent-speak, means it's probably true.

Rodriguez, who is having the season of his life for the Yankees, can opt out of his contract 10 days after the World Series. That's the $252 million 10-year deal reached with the Texas Rangers before the 2001 season. ARod is scheduled to make a mere $27 million each of the next three seasons but if he stays with the Yankees, the Rangers are obligated to pay $29 million of that.

A player can neither have part ownership of a team nor negotiate for future ownership, so if Boras is even thinking about it, he'll be in for a rough road with Commissioner Bud Selig. As would those potential bidders.
