Despite Spygate, Belichick Reportedly Gets Contract Extension
Perhaps crime really does pay.
Bill Belichick's contract status is a closely guarded National Football League secret, though ESPN.com reports that the thrice-winning Super Bowl coach recently signed an extension through 2013 to continue leading the New England Patriots.
This despite his role in the videotape spying scandal which led to the NFL's recent ruling against Belichick and the team regarding videotaping procedures.
The NFL fined Belichick $500,000 and the team $250,000 and docked the team draft choices - a first-round pick if it makes the playoffs and a second- and third-round pick if it doesn't - after commissioner Roger Goodell ruled they violated league policy by taping New York Jets coaches relaying signals during the Patriots' 38-14 victory on Sept. 9.

The Patriots and Belichick swamped the San Diego Chargers 38-14 last night. This after a vote of support for Belichick from team chairman/CEO Robert Kraft.
"I believe that Coach Belichick always tries to do what is best for the team and he is always accountable for his decisions," Kraft said. "He has paid a heavy price and so has our organization. He has apologized for his actions. I accept his apology and look forward to working with him as we move forward."
Once again, real world rules don't appear to apply in the NFL.
