IOC Announces Bid Cites for 2016 Summer Olympics

Let the games before the Games begin.

aroundtherings.com reports that the IOC has officially named seven cities that have applied to host the 2016 Summer Olympics: Baku, Azerbaijan; Chicago; Doha, Qatar; Madrid; Prague; Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.

The cities now to submit a $150,000 application fee to the IOC. Cities making the payment then participate in a five-day bid city seminar being organized in October by the IOC in Lausanne. Next June, the IOC will decide which cities will be invited to prepare formal bids and enter the international round of competition.

A vote the winning bid is expected to be announced on Oct. 2, 2009.

Meanwhile, London's Olympic Delivery Authority "insists it is 'on track' with plans" for the 2012 Olympic Stadium for its Summer Games, "despite confirming that the roof concept has yet to be approved," according to aroundtherings.com.
