Big Ten Network Makes Deal With EchoStar
The popularity of college sports makes new strides every season. The latest move is the
Big Ten Network reaching agreement with satellite operator Echostar.
The deal, which will take effect this weekend, will place the channel on its America's Top 100 package, which costs subscribers about $30 per month, according to the Sports Business Journal. After six months, EchoStar plans to move the channel to the AT100 Plus package, which is $40 per month in the conference's eight-state footprint.
The AT100 package has nearly 3 million subscribers in the Big Ten region and 11.5 million subscribers nationally, while the Plus package has about 2 million subscribers inside the footprint and about 9 million nationally.
The country's biggest cable operators - Comcast, Time Warner, Charter and Cox--still haven't reached deals with the Big Ten Network.
