Appalachian State's Big Upset Could Cost Them Money

Believe it or not, Appalachian State
could take a financial hit because of their stunning victory over Michigan.

The Boone, North Carolina, school earns much of its more money matching up with powerhouse opponents rather than selling tickets at their home stadium, according to CNBC's Darren Rovell.

If Appalachian State sells out every home game, they will make roughly $2.1 million (charging about $20 per person with 16,650 seats per game. For the 2005-06 season, Appalachian State's football program earned about $1.3 million to Michigan's profits of nearly $38 million after expenses, according to Rovell.

Since Michigan has seen their national title hopes go up in flames this Labor Day weekend with their 34-32 loss to the Mountaineers, why would other top football schools risk playing feisty Appalachian State? There are plenty of other easy targets out there.
