Fact-Checking Huckabee
In his speech at the RNC tonight former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee said:
"And speaking of Gov. Palin, I am so tired of hearing about her lack of experience. I want to tell you folks something. She got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States."
That took me by surprise so I went to check, and sure enough, Huckabee was wrong, but it's a lot closer than I expected. These are the number of votes Palin received in her two mayoral elections, according to the Anchorage Daily News:
1996 - 617
2000 - 909
Palin's Total - 1,526
Here are the number of votes Biden got this year:
Delaware - 2,863
Iowa - 23
New Hampshire - 628
Biden's Total - 3,334
As for Palin's speech, it looks like she got the job done: The Intrade contract on whether she will withdraw was trading at 12 when her speech started and fell to 7.6 by the end.
