Kerry to Newspapers: Help Is On the Way

As if things weren't bad enough for newspapers already, now John Kerry has made it his personal mission to rescue them.

"The increase in media conglomerates has resulted in an increase in agenda-driven reporting and over time, if those of us who value a diversity of opinion and ideas, and are unafraid to be confronted with pointed commentary and analysis, do not act, it is a situation which will only get worse," wrote the ever-prolix senator in a letter to the Boston Globe's union. Kerry is going to hold hearings next week on the industry's plight.

Trust me, Senator: This isn't like beating an unpopular incumbent who was barely elected in the first place against the backdrop of an ill-conceived war, a flagging economy and a torture scandal. This is going to be hard.
