Late Breaks: More Work, Less Pay at Hachette

-At least when The New York Times cut its employees' salaries, it also gave them some extra time off to cushion the blow. At Hachette Filipacchi Media, a pay cut (6 percent for some, 3 percent for others) actually comes together with a lengthening of the work day. Morale: Who needs it? [Gawker]

-Variety parent Reed Business Information is downsizing its workforce by 7 percent. [The Wrap]

-Fox News editorial honcho John Moody is moving on up into an executive job at News Corp. [TVNewser]

-Some guy who wrote a book says newspapers should avoid using slang and cultural references that are more than a decade or two old to avoid alienating younger readers. Are you going to argue with some guy who wrote a book? [E&P]. □
