Revolt at 'LA Times' Over NBC's Phony News Ad

Staffers at the Los Angeles Times have had to put up with a lot since Sam Zell bought their paper (and, yes, for a long time before that, too). But there's only so much they'll take, and a cheesy, semi-deceptive front page advertisement that impersonates a news story evidently crosses the line.

AllThingsD reports that a circulation protesting the ad, for the new NBC series Southland, has been gathering signatures. "The NBC ad may have provided some quick cash, but it has caused incalculable damage to this institution," wrote the petition's anonymous author(s). "Our willingness to sell our most precious real estate to an advertiser is embarrassing and demoralizing."

And Times veterans know from embarrassing and demoralizing.
