Idle Chatter: Paperless Detroit; 'Friday Night Lights'

-The Detroit Free Press and News ended Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday distribution this week -- just as President Obama's ultimatum to automakers put the city at the center of national attention. [WSJ]

-The Special Olympics is sponsoring an ad campaign discouraging use of the word "retard" as a derogatory term. [NYT]

-Yay! NBC has picked up another two seasons of Friday Night Lights. Also renewed is the unique deal under which the show airs on DirecTV first. [USAT]

-Disney is putting some short clips of ABC shows on YouTube. Yawn. Wake me when it's full episodes. [LAT]

-Dylan Ratigan evidently left his job at CNBC in favor of a new one as ABC's chief financial correspondent, but he's not supposed to say so until his non-compete expires. [P6]

-Fox is developing a dating show starring overweight people. In shorthand, it's The Bachelor meets The Biggest Loser. [NYP]. □
