Idle Chatter: Kindle, Twitter, 'Ad Age,' Oprah, more

-Discovery Communications just remembered that it owns a patent on the technology that makes the Kindle and other e-readers work. It's suing Amazon for royalties. [WSJ]

-Advertising Age will publish about half a dozen fewer issues than usual this year to save money. [NYO]

-Speaking of saving money, Condé Nast (which owns Portfolio) is slimming budgets by 10 percent, defining down its corporate pension plan and eying layoffs in its corporate sales unit. [NYO, NYP, Ad Age]

-One more reason to hate Twitter: because after spending three weeks hearing testimony, the whole thing can end in a mistrial when one of your fellow jurors reads an errant tweet. [NYT]
