Idle Chatter: 'Chronicle,' 'Power Rangers,' the Roots

-Hope for the San Francisco Chronicle: The employees' union has tentatively agreed to some of the concessions Hearst has said it will require if it's not to shut down or sell the paper. They include the right to lay off workers without regard to seniority. [SF Chron]

-John Caramanica thinks Jimmy Fallon did well in picking his house band, if not so much in the rest of his duties: "[T]he greatest revelation of the first week of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on NBC was that it's wholly plausible that the Roots are funnier than their host." [NYT]
