Idle Chatter: CNBC's Surge; McClatchy's Retreat

-The recession is to CNBC as the Iraq War was to Fox News and the Gulf War was to CNN. [NYT]

-McClatchy is downsizing its workforce by 15 percent, a loss of 1,600. [AP]

-Everyone likes to talk about how big Rush Limbaugh's audience is, but no one really knows for sure. [WaPo]

-Of the 25 biggest newspapers of 1990, only four have grown in the time since then. The other 21 have shrunk or, in the case of the Rocky Mountain News, shut down entirely. [Ad Age]. □
