Idle Chatter: Murdoch Rebuffed, but Not Enough

-Elisabeth Murdoch, daughter of Rupert, recently turned down a spot on the News Corp. board. Rest assured, it was not daddy issues but completely legitimate commercial concerns that caused her to do so. [Fortune]

-Speaking of Murdoch, News Corp. insiders say he's thinking about buying the Los Angeles Times. You can already hear the analysts sharpening their pens. [Variety]

-CBS is going to join NBC Universal and Channel 7 in making every New York City taxi ride a waking nightmare. [NYP]

-Hearst says it will sell or shutter the San Francisco Chronicle unless it can get some pretty serious concessions out of the employees' union. [NYT]

-Tiger Woods's return from knee surgery is good news for Nike, Gatorade, Tag Heuer and all the other companies that use him to market their brands, as well as for the TV networks that air golf. It's bad news for other golfers, though. [WSJ]. □
