Idle Chatter: 'Playboy,' Time Inc., 'New York,' more

-Playboy Enterprises says its willingness to consider a sale is not a new development; it's just that nobody's asked before, okay? What it won't consider is selling just the magazine. [NYT]

-Cable operators are trying to figure out how they're going to survive in a world where anyone with an internet connection can watch an unlimited supply of free, high-quality online video. Their idea is to work with networks to make sure that the best cable programming is available online, but only to subscribers. [WSJ]

-American Media and New York magazine are following Hachette Filipacchi Media in dropping out of the Magazine Publishers of America. [NYP]

-Time Inc. has made nice with Source Interlink Cos., which was suing the publisher, and a slew of others, on grounds alleged collusion to drive it out of business. Source has backed off a demand that it be able to charge an extra 7 cents a copy to distribute Time Inc.'s magazines. [MW]. □
