Idle Chatter: A-Rod, A-Wint, 'Watchmen,' more

-New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez has apologized to Sports Illustrated's Selena Roberts for saying she lied and stalked him when really all she did was accurately report that he had used steroids. [AP]

-Speaking of A-Rod, his juicing confession is going to mean lost endorsement deals for other baseball players as marketers come to see them as risky to associate with. [Ad Age]

-L'Oreal has ditched plans to advertise during the Academy Awards. The cosmetics giant ran eight spots during last year's broadcast. With other big sponsors also bailing, ABC is said to have dropped its asking price for an Oscars spot 18 percent to $1.4 million. [Adweek]

-Did Warner Bros. lay it on too thick when it hailed director Zach Snyder as a "visionary" in ads for Watchmen? The man has made two other movies. [NYT]

-Vogue editor Anna Wintour on what's wrong with fashion right now: "[T]o be honest there's been too much product, too much copy-catting, and, probably too much consumerism." Got that? Consumerism bad, per Vogue. [WSJ]. □
