How Your Blurb Sausage Gets Made

Quite a while ago now, I penned a tongue-in-cheek writeup of Lapham's Quarterly, the scholarly journal founded by former Harper's editor Lewis Lapham. Unable to secure a copy of the magazine, I went ahead with my review anyway in homage to Lapham himself, who famously wrote a column purporting to be about the Republican National Convention that was filed well before it took place.

But, as a friend recently pointed out to me, that didn't stop the Lapham's Quarterly people from using a quote from my "review" in their marketing materials. Behold. □
