Late Breaks: News Corp. Loses a Fan, more

-Influential analyst Rich Greenfield of Pali Research has changed his recommendation for News Corp. from buy to sell. His rationale: "While we have long viewed Rupert Murdoch as the most visionary CEO in the media sector...we are increasingly surprised/frustrated with his lack of strategic direction related to News Corp's television station, newspaper and book publishing assets." The Los Angeles Times is eliminating another 70 newsroom jobs. [LAT]

-New York Daily News owner Mort Zuckerman: "The print publishing business is an oxymoron. It is no longer a business. It is an advertising-driven business and advertisers have driven elsewhere." (Zuckerman's U.S. News just laid off a half-dozen people or so.) [FT]

-USA Today publisher Gannett's net income was down 36 percent in the fourth quarter. [AP]

-Barack Obama's press office isn't operating in a way consistent with his calls for transparent government. [CJR]. □
