Idle Chatter: Letterman, 'LAT,' 'Page Six Mag,' more

-CBS is in talks with David Letterman to extend his tenure at the Late Show past 2010. [B&C]

-The New York Post is more or less folding Page Six Magazine; what was a weekly will now be a quarterly, and the whole staff is getting laid off. [FishbowlNY]

-The Los Angeles Times is discontinuing its "California" section and moving local content into the front section. The paper's publisher, Eddy Hartenstein, is also trying to keep staffers from talking to the press, and reportedly spiked a story notifying readers of an upcoming cover price increase.
