Late Breaks: John Updike, R.I.P.

-Author John Updike is dead at 76. [AP]

-The vast majority of journalists who get laid off from newspapers end up taking jobs doing other things -- "from public relations to teaching to driving a bus and clerking in a liquor store." [AJR]

-Terrell Owens, a man who was born to have a reality TV show, is getting his own reality TV show -- on VH1, no less. [ESPN]

-People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says it tried to buy ad time during the Super Bowl, but NBC rejected its commercial, which consisted of women getting sexually aroused while handling vegetables. [PETA]. □
