Idle Chatter: Inauguration Day Edition

-The mystery over what's going on with Newsday's editorial leadership continues. One scenario coming into focus: managing editor Debby Krenek replaces editor in chief John Mancini. [NYP]

-Facebook is coming under pressure to crack down on Mafia members who use it to send coded messages to each other. [NYT]

-The inauguration will be CNN's biggest advertising event ever in terms of the number of sponsors signed up. [Ad Age]

-Publishers are racing to bring out personal-finance books advising readers on how to survive the recession. Could this be "the surest sign yet that the worst is over"? (Or did that come when Maureen Dowd investigated "spa guilt"?) [WSJ]

-An Australian writer whose self-published novel was judged an insult to the king of Thailand was sentenced to three years in prison. His book sold fewer than a dozen copies, so that's three months per reader. [NYT]. □
