Idle Chatter: Oscar Relents, Fake Steve Repents

-After the disastrously low ratings for last year's Oscars, ABC and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences are making concessions to goose ad sales. The price of a spot is now $1.4 million, down from $1.7 million, and studios will be able to advertise their films for the first time. [Ad Age]

-Daniel Lyons, a.k.a. the writer formerly known as Fake Steve Jobs, says he's "embarrassed" that he called out CNBC reporter Jim Goldman as a "suck-up" for his off-target reporting on the real Steve Jobs. [NYT]

-Job security ain't what it used to be for top editors and publishers at big newspapers. Either they're getting pushed out the door or they're taking early retirement to avoid having to oversee layoffs. [NYT]

-Pearson PLC, publisher of the Financial Times, beat analysts' estimates for 2008. [Bloomberg]. □
