Update: HuffPo No Savior for Most 23/6ers
It seems I may have been a bit too upbeat when I said yesterday that the Huffington Post had made room on the ark for 23/6, the humor site it co-founded with IAC. In fact, as a helpful commenter pointed out, and as I subsequently confirmed, most of the people who've been working on the site are to be left bobbing in its wake.
In total, 13 people lost their jobs as a result of the transfer; one editorial employee is being retained. A Huffington Post spokesman referred questions about the layoffs to IAC, which has yet to respond.
In general, it looks like Huffpo was happy to add 23/6 to its offerings on the condition that it could be had on the cheap. While terms of the deal weren't disclosed, one source, noting that IAC had already decided to give up on the site no matter what, sold it for "a song." Traffic-wise, it's been modestly successful, but much of the growth it has shown was clearly driven by interest in the election:
