Idle Chatter: D.C. Follies, Olympic Dreams

-Ailing newspaper chains are dramatically cutting back their presence in Washington, D.C.; a number have closed their bureaus altogether. [NYT]

-Sirius XM shareholders will vote today on whether to issue 3.5 billion additional shares, a measure that may be necessary if the satellite radio giant is to meet its debt obligations. [WSJ]

-CBS and Time Warner may team up to bid for the rights to the 2014 and 2016 Olympic Games. [AP]
