Deutsch's 'Big Idea' to Live On in Print
Good news, would-be entrepreneurs! Donny Deutsch may be sidelined at CNBC, but his new book is still coming out as scheduled -- even though it's a tie-in to a TV show that's no longer on the air.
A publicist for the adman/business guru says The Big Idea: How to Make Your Entrepreneurial Dreams Come True, From the Aha Moment to Your First Million will still hit bookstores Jan. 1, despite the putting on hiatus of its namesake show. "We're full speed ahead," says the publicist, Stephanie Jones. "I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a bestseller." That's the spirit!
Jones didn't know how large the initial print run was, but said Hyperion, the publisher, had not scaled it back to reflect the loss of the on-air promotion that Deutsch's show could've provided. "With a recession and people losing their jobs, what better time to start a new idea?" she said.
Somewhat paradoxically, she then cited those same forces in explaining why The Big Idea, the TV show, had to go on hiatus: "You can't do nightly shows about success when the economy is like it is."
Here's a sample of Deutsch's sure-to-be-bestselling wisdom, by the way, from chapter 4, "Make Love, Not Work":
Anyone who tells you they'd rather work than make love is lying -- unless their work is like making love. It's like finding the G-spot. As I've said, the happiest people I've met are those who love what they do.
