Idle Chatter: Gay Superheroes and Black Presidents

-The term "credit crunch" has for some reason caught on as a marketing gimmick in the U.K., where it's being used to sell everything from magazines to shoes to toffees. [WSJ]

-Liberal activists distributed a 14-page spoof issue of The New York Times yesterday. Three actual Times staffers were said to be involved in producing it. The Times says the claim that 1.2 million copies of the parody were printed is "suspect." [NYP, NYT]

-Showtime is developing a series about a gay superhero. Isn't that all of them? [Variety]

-Congratulations, black people! Now that one of you is president, marketers are interested in selling you stuff. [WSJ]

-A woman who tried out for American Idol and was obsessed with Paula Abdul died of what seemed to be an intentional overdose outside Abdul's house. [NYP]. □
