'LA Times' Endorses Obama, First-Ever Democrat

In case you ever doubted it was a new era at the Los Angeles Times, here's another indication: The paper just endorsed Barack Obama for president -- the first time in its history it has backed a Democrat for the office.

"Obama is educated and eloquent, sober and exciting, steady and mature," reads the editorial. "He represents the nation as it is, and as it aspires to be."

It's the Times's first endorsement of any presidential candidate since 1972. Its sister paper, the Chicago Tribune, is also rumored to be leaning toward giving Obama its first-ever endorsement of a Democrat.
